What the design covers
- Soil pressure, surcharge and water loads
- Checks for overturning, sliding and soil bearing
- Wall reinforcement and footing size
- Drainage and backfill requirements
- Block, poured concrete or timber wall types
Information that makes it faster
Send the wall length and height, what sits above and below the wall, the address, and photos of the site. If you have a soil report we use it. If not, we state the soil assumptions on the drawings, and the design is subject to field confirmation of those assumptions.
How it works
Step 1: Send the address, a sketch or photos, and any plans or survey you have, or call us. Step 2: We confirm what the county needs and send a fixed written price. Step 3: Approve the quote and send the survey if one is required. Step 4: We prepare the calculations and drawings, review them and seal them. Step 5: You or your contractor submit the permit, and we answer the county's comments on our plans.
Frequently Asked Questions
How tall can a retaining wall be without an engineer?
It depends on the county and what the wall supports. Many jurisdictions require engineering above roughly 3 to 4 feet or whenever there is a surcharge. Check your permit office or send us the details.
Do you need a geotechnical report?
Not always. For modest walls we can design with stated soil assumptions. Tall walls or poor soils may need a geotechnical report.
Can you design a wall that is already built?
Yes. See our after-the-fact permit service.
How much does retaining wall design cost in Tampa Bay?
Our fixed price starts at $950. Your exact price depends on the size and complexity of the project and what your county requires, and you get it in writing before you pay. There is no hourly billing. Typical turnaround is 5–7 business days.
